German factory price growth slows

German factory gate inflation slowed to its lowest rate since 2004 in July, driven down by falling energy costs.

Producer prices rose 1.1% compared to July 2006, from 1.7% a month earlier, the Federal Statistics Office said.
Energy prices were 2.8% lower than at the same time last year, with oil prices 2.6% lower - mainly as a result of the strong euro, the report added.
Over the past year, the euro has risen by 4.6% against the dollar, partly offsetting an increase in oil prices.
Meanwhile, the cost of oil has increased 41% since the middle of January. However, when energy costs were excluded, producer prices rose 2.4% in July from a year earlier.
