Rakeyee calls for formation of “grand women’s coalition”

TEHRAN – Fatemeh Rakeyee, the chairperson of the Women’s Bureau of Parties House speaking to Tehran Times here last week called for the formation of a grand women’s coalition in order to prevent discrimination against women in society.
The coalition will consider women’s shares in the election lists of party coalitions and political groups, she maintained.Stressing on the capabilities of women in different domains, Rakeyee referred to recent meetings between the members of the Parties’ House and Iranian officials in order to follow up the question of women’s shares in the Majlis candidacy.
“The meetings focused on women’s affairs and the Majlis election and we hope the political groups look at the presence of women in the election not as a political matter but as a national subject, which will be to the benefit of the whole society”, she added.
Reformist women want to attain their 30% share in all Majlis candidacy lists, with a combination of both reformists and fundamentalists, since in order to achieve their goals, women should prove their competence regardless of political factionalism, she maintained.
“Women should try to establish a grand coalition for removing all discrimination against them in society” she expressed.
