TEHRAN – The ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Young-mok, here on Thursday in an official ceremony donated 21,000 dollars (20 million rials) to Shahid Rajaie Cardiovascular Medical Center to help children suffering from heart disease.   The amount was contributed by Korean Friendship Association, Korean community living in Tehran, and Korean companies, publishers, and physicians, Young-mok told reporters.

The cost of cardiovascular treatment for children - many not able to afford medical care - is much more than that of adults with insurance companies usually not covering heart therapy, said MD Saeid Hosseini.
The ambassador visited different sections of the hospital and gave presents to child patients.
He said the move was aimed at promoting “friendship activities” between Iran and Korea, and encouraging people to take part in charity events.
""Even though the amount is very modest it is the first step for more contributions.""
Young-mok expressed hope that further cooperation between Iranian and Korean medical centers will lead to providing heart patients with better instruments and medical care.
“This (medical) center is very strong and should be provided with further equipment in order to save the lives of more babies in the region.”
He added that the Korean community is “happy with Iran’s friendship” and is determined to boost comprehensive ties with the Islamic Republic.
""We are committed to develop cooperation with Iran. The two countries have high potential to cooperate in cultural and industrial areas… The Islamic Republic is also very rich in natural resources, and expansion of relations can benefit both countries.”
