NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AP) -- Mauritanian authorities have released all eight people who had been detained after an attack on the Israeli Embassy earlier this month for lack of evidence, officials said Monday.

Seven of the detainees, including two Tunisian citizens, were held for 10 days and interrogated before being released on Monday, Judge Ould Moustapha said. The eighth was released last week shortly after his arrest, also because there was not enough proof to hold him.
Moustapha gave no other details.
Al-Qaeda in Islamic North Africa claimed responsibility for the Feb. 1 shooting attack, in which shots were fired at the Israeli Embassy and a nearby restaurant popular with foreigners. Three bystanders were wounded.
Mauritania is a relatively stable Islamic republic in northwestern Africa. But the country has faced a setback following two attacks blamed on Islamic terrorists, including the Dec. 24 slaying of four French tourists picnicking on the side of a road.
