The Republic of Azerbaijan has extradited 17 Iranian criminals via the city of Astara in line with a mutually-agreed criminal extradition accord.

Governor of the Iranian city of Astara, Morteza Talebi, told IRNA on Saturday that the Iranian nationals had been sentenced to jail terms by Azeri courts for committing crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal trespassing, and manslaughter.
He added that no Azeri criminals are incarcerated in Iran, noting that the extradition was a unilateral move.
Talebi stated that efforts are underway to release another group of Iranian criminals still in jail in Azerbaijan.
