TEHRAN -- Puppet show director Azadeh Ansari believes that works by Gabriel Garcia Marques are both credible and incredible, making them appropriate for puppet shows.

Written by Arash Parsakhu and directed by Ansari, “Macondo” is an adaptation of “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marques. It features the story of arrival of a supernatural old man into an imaginary town in which strange events happen, influencing the life of the residents.
“Marques has the ability to beautifully set the real world beside the world of imagination, and put a surprising and unforgettable impression on the readers,” Ansari told the Persian service of ISNA.
She continued that she always likes to make use of small puppets in her works, “They seem magical and have always been attractive to me; and since I was planning to put man and puppet together in my work, I decided to make use of small puppets to portray reality and magic next to one another.”
Ansari who has spent a long time on preparing the puppet show emphasized that she is happy with the results.
“Macondo” is currently on stage at Tehran’s City Theater Complex. Afsaneh Mahian, Ramin Sayyar-Dashti, Farzin Mohades and Ali Milani are the actors and the puppeteers are Marzieh Imankhani, Farzaneh Aqeli, Nasim Yaquti, and Naima Karami.
