Sardasht chemical attack photos coming to Tehran

TEHRAN -- An exhibition of photos by Qader Aqeli featuring Iraqi chemical attack on Iranian Kurdish town Sardasht will open at the Iranian Photographers Center on June 24.
The showcase will run June 30 at the venue located in Somayyeh St.
Located in West Azarbaijan Province, Sardasht was struck by Iraqi chemical weapons on June 28, 1987 and many civilians were injured in the attack.
“Buddha” premieres in Turkey
TEHRAN -- Hana Makhmalbaf’s “Buddha Collapsed out of Shame” premiered in Turkish movie theaters last week.
The film tells the story of a little girl trying to get to school in Afghanistan is a devastating study of the effects of warfare on young children.
Chamran’s “Human and God” published in Turkey
TEHRAN -- Iranian war veteran Mostafa Chamran’s “Human and God” was translated and published in Turkey last month.
Dr. Chamran (1932-1981) was the commander of paramilitary volunteers in Iran-Iraq war, who was martyred on June 21, 1981 as the war was raging on.
Selection of Hafez poems published in Armenia
TEHRAN -- “Garden of Musalla”, a collection of Hafez poems has recently been published in Armenia.
The collection has been translated into Armenian under the supervision of Iran’s Cultural Office in Armenia.
Published by Iravunk Publications of Armenia, the book contains the lyrics translated by famous Armenian poets such as Avetik Isahakian, and Silva Kaputikyan.
The Iravunk Publications has previously published poetry by Persian poets Omar Khayyam and Rumi.
INLA director visits Austrian Academy of Sciences and National Library
TEHRAN -- Director of Iran National Library and Archives (INLA), Ali-Akbar Ash’ari paid visit to the Institute of Iranian Studies Austrian Academy of Sciences during his sojourn in Vienna on Saturday.
During the meeting with the institute director Bert Fragner, Ash’ari proposed to exchange books on Iranology theme between INLA and institute.
Ash’ari also visited the Austrian National Library and the library director Hans Petschar arrange to travel Iran in early 2009 for signing Memorandum of Understanding between two libraries and extending cultural cooperation..
