TEHRAN – Former president Mohammad Khatami has warned certain reformist parties that the slogan of “either one person or nobody” for the 2009 presidential election is dangerous.
His comments came in response to some reformists’ calls that the reformist camp should only push for Khatami’s candidacy. In a meeting with the members of the Coordination Council of Reformist Front on Tuesday, Khatami said this slogan will disturb other reformist parties and will also block other alternatives in the run up to the elections.
Khatami said one should study whether by running for president he can help develop the country in line with the “interests of the revolution, people’s real demands, and the progress of the country.”
He said he has not yet decided to contest the elections because he is studying how much he can help to the country’s future.
The former president noted that running for election without having “plans or ideas” is not desirable.
Khatami also stated that it is necessary that all groups and individuals air their views about priorities in running the country after the elections.
To affect developments in the country political groups or parties should not necessarily be in power, he noted
