TEHRAN -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that the International Atomic Energy Agency should set a deadline for the United States to present evidence for its claims about Iran’s nuclear program.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Nuclear Power Plants, the Environment, and Sustainable Development conference in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani asked the IAEA to take the issue off its agenda if those countries that want Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program can not prove their allegations. He also called the IAEA director general’s recent report on Iran’s nuclear program ambiguous.
Although Mohamed ElBaradei’s efforts in some areas were useful, interference and pressure by certain countries, especially their intelligence services, have kept Iran’s nuclear dossier on the agency’s agenda, he added.
Larijani also criticized IAEA officials for allowing the intelligence services of certain countries to have undue influence over the UN nuclear watchdog, which he said has created problems for ElBaradei and the agency
