Dropping of precondition has opened way for Iran-5+1 group talks

TEHRAN - With “correct management”, the resumption of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group would serve the interests of both sides, political expert Davoud Hermidas-Bavand said on Sunday.

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States, plus Germany, have offered to hold direct talks with Iran over its nuclear program.
However, the 5+1 group’s recent move should not be deemed as a major event since it only offers a small opportunity both for the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Western powers, Hermidas-Bavand told the Mehr News Agency.
One point should be taken into consideration, namely the fact that in the current situation, in which U.S. President Barack Obama has been talking about change, the 5+1 group has decided to adopt an approach which is based on peaceful dialogue in order to steer Iran’s nuclear issue in a particular direction, he pointed out.
Therefore, it should not be forgotten that in order to counter a soft tactic, Iran should employ a similar tactic because what is happening now is influencing world public opinion, Hermidas-Bavand observed.
Iran’s steadfastness persuaded 5+1 group to take a new tack
Political analyst Seyyed Mojtaba Vahedi stated that President Obama’s slogan of change and Iran’s steadfastness are the reasons why the 5+1 group has changed its approach toward negotiations over the country’s nuclear program.
He made the remarks in an interview with the Mehr News Agency.
In a break from the administration of President George W. Bush, the United States announced on Wednesday it would rejoin direct talks with the European powers, Russia, China, and Iran on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
3 reasons the West decided to negotiate with Iran
International affairs expert Fayyaz Zahed said on Sunday that the change of government in the United States, Iran’s proactive approach toward the nuclear issue, and the fact that it is not the right time for the West to increase pressure on Iran are the three main reasons why the West is willing to negotiate with Iran.
Although it is difficult for the West to accept that an independent country has domestically developed nuclear technology, and given the fact that Iran will never agree to provide endless guarantees, there is still no doubt that dialogue is the only way to solve this problem, he told MNA in Tehran.
West has dropped its precondition
The structure of the 5+1 group is changing and the West has finally dropped its precondition, MP Hamidreza Hajbabaii of the Majlis Presiding Board stated on Sunday.
President Obama’s recent signals about Iran’s nuclear program mark an end to George W. Bush’s strategy toward Iran, Hajbabaii told MNA.
The previous U.S. administration had said it would never take part in the 5+1 negotiations with Iran until Tehran suspended its uranium enrichment program.
West’s offer is a golden opportunity for Iran
Political expert Mahdi Mazaheri said that the West’s renewed willingness to negotiate with Iran has created a golden opportunity for the Islamic Republic.
Obama’s recent message to Iran and his negotiations with his European and Middle Eastern partners about the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq signify that a change has been made in U.S. policy, he added.
Call it the 7-party group, not the 5+1 group
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaedin Boroujerdi has suggested a name change for the group holding negotiations on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
From now on, instead of the 5+1 group, the term “7-party group” should be used, the MP told reporters in Tehran on Sunday
