NEW DELHI, India (AFP) – Russia is to build 12 nuclear reactors in India, half of them by 2017, Sergei Kiriyenko, the head of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Friday.

“We will now sign a road map which directly stipulates (the construction of) 12 units in India,” said Kiriyenko, who was accompanying Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on his visit to India.
Six of the reactors will be built between 2012 and 2017, he added. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Friday said he sees nuclear power generation in India as a promising area of interaction between Russia and the South Asian nation. “This is one of our major, far-reaching, promising areas of interaction,” Putin said while talking with Indian businessman in Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi through video-conferencing. Cooperation with India in nuclear energy will include building reactors, supply of the fuel and waste disposal, he said.
