TEHRAN – Parliamentary Foreign Policy and National Security Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi announced that the nation will likely have nuclear electricity during the summer.

“Most probably, part of the nation’s electricity during this summer will be nuclear electricity,” he told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.
Boroujerdi added that members of the Majlis security committee have visited Bushehr power plant, which is under construction by a Russian team.
He pointed out that the power plant seemed ready to go on stream soon.
Russians have increased the number of their engineers to finish the construction of the plant and the last technical tests are underway, he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi pointed out that the Majlis will establish a committee to pursue the suggestions President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made during the nuclear disarmament conference in Tehran.
Tehran nuclear conference
The nuclear disarmament conference titled: ”Nuclear Energy For All, Nuclear Weapons For None”, was held in Tehran on April 17-18. In an address to this conference being President Ahmadinejad called for reforms in the United Nations Security Council, adding that it is undemocratic for certain states to have the right of veto.
The UN Security Council has been turned into a tool for implementing the policies of a few belligerent countries, he said.
To expect security to be established by the veto-wielding members of the Security Council and the possessors of the largest stockpiles of weapons is naive, he observed.
He also proposed the establishment of an independent international group to oversee nuclear disarmament and prevent nuclear proliferation.
Ahmadinejad stated that countries that threaten other countries with nuclear weapons should be suspended from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
