KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- Iran has expressed interest to offer its expertise in nuclear energy technology to enable Malaysia set up a nuclear power plant, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Monday.

He said the interest was stated by the Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Mohammad-Mehdi Zahedi when the latter called on him Monday at his office at Parliament House, here.
Wan Junaidi said to reporters later he informed Zahedi that Malaysia had yet to make a final decision on setting up a nuclear power plant and that it was still premature at the moment.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui had said that the government would make a final decision on nuclear technology development as an alternative to electricity generation after considering the outcome of the Nuclear Power Infrastructure Development Plan (NPIDP) which was expected to be ready in 2013.
