Thaksin resigns from advisory role to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has resigned from his advisory role to the Cambodian government and to Prime Minister Hun Sen, according to the government statement released Monday.
The statement said Thaksin Shinawatra has met his difficulty in fulfilling his work as personal advisor to Hun Sen and advisor to the Cambodian government.Upon the request from Thaksin, Cambodia has accepted his resignation and thanked him for his work in helping Cambodia as of date, the statement said.
Thaksin was officially appointed as adviser to his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen and the Royal Government of Cambodia by King Norodom Sihamoni on Oct. 27, 2009
Thaksin was toppled from power in 2006 and he has lived in self- exile in foreign countries since then to avoid a two-year jail term for corruption.
