TEHRAN – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said Iran will maintain its strategic military presence in the international waters.

The move is aimed at demonstrating the country’s military might and defending the interests of the Islamic Republic, Sayyari told IRNA news agency in an interview published on its website on Sunday.
This is Iran’s right to deploy warships in the international waters wherever it is necessary, for instance to fight piracy in the Gulf of Aden, he stated.
Iran has so far dispatched several warships to the Gulf of Aden to protect its trade vessels and oil tankers from Somali pirates’ attacks
