TEHRAN – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that regional nations don’t trust claims of democracy by Western powers which are supporting dictators in the region.

SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili made the remark during a meeting with visiting Sudanese State Minister at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Urban Development Mabrouk Mubarak Salim on Tuesday.
“These powers’ claim of democracy does not absolve them of their responsibility for fully supporting dictators over the past few decades,” he said.
“The United States and some other Western powers are the main culprits behind the sustenance of dictatorship in the world, so regional nations are vigilant and will foil their plots,” he stated.
He also criticized the major powers for adopting the policy of subordinating regional countries and preventing them from making progress.
He went on to say that Western powers are promoting insecurity in regional countries to continue their hegemonic policies on the region.
Mubarak also briefed Jalili on the latest developments in Sudan and thanked Iran for supporting the African country.
He called for the expansion of political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
