RASA, in a news report, quotes Majlis Cultural Committee Chairman Qolamali Haddad Adel as predicting like the previous elections the three major principlist groups (Followers of Imam and Leadership Front, Devotees and Dynamic Society, and Pleasant Fragrance of Service) will set aside their disagreements and submit a single list of candidates in the parliamentary elections in Tehran. He said the three-member principlist committee has provided the ground for serious parliamentary campaigns by the principlists and the committee has held meetings with Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani (chairman of the Assembly of Experts) and Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi (the former Judiciary chief). Haddad Adel also said the three major principlist groups, through joint efforts, will rob the opportunity from the deviant current in the elections.
JAHAN, in a news report, quotes MP Esmaeil Kosari, a prominent figure at the Majlis principlist faction, as saying that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should not say something that he cannot live up to. Kosari, who is the deputy chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said a promise by the president to allocate 1000-meter land for free to every family to build villas sounds very far-fetched. “We call on the president to first resolve the problems regarding the Mehr housing project and then announce such far-fetched plans.” Kosari added that the president should resolve other problems facing the country and do not make unrealistic promises that he cannot fulfill and do not make the people pessimistic about himself.
TEHRAN-E EMROOZ asked some political activists to answer two questions: “what is the Islamic establishment’s red line?” and “Is cabinet the red line?” after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on June 29, “The cabinet is a red line which, if crossed, I will be compelled to fulfill my legal obligation (in this regard); otherwise the country will suffer loss.” Hojatoleslam Navvab, from Qom Seminary, said the Islamic establishment has four red lines which have been set by the Supreme Leader, namely Revolution, Islam, Imam, and leadership. Navvab also said he does not think that cabinet is the red line. Mojtaba Shakeri, of the Islamic Revolution Devotees Society, said the principles and values of the Revolution are the red line. “Maybe the cabinet is also a red line,” he added. Followers of the Imam and Leadership Front spokesman Kamal Sajjadi cited national security, Constitution and all principles of the Revolution as the red line. “I do not think that the cabinet is included in the establishment’s red lines” he added. Hamid-Reza Taraqi, the deputy chief of the Coalition Party, also said only Islam is the establishment’s red line. “Cabinet is not the red line; after Islam justice is the establishment’s red line”. The Secretary General of Green Party, Hossein Kan’ani Moqaddam, said the principles of Revolution, Constitution, and national security are the red lines of the establishment. “Cabinet is not regarded as a red line”, he stated.
