Iranian artworks sell well at Bonhams

TEHRAN – Iranian artworks made respectable profits at the Bonhams auction house sale in London held on April 20, 2015, selling 16 out of 24 lots offered on sale.

A collection of valuable works by artists from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine and Tunisia went under the hammer at “A Century of Iraqi Art and Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art” auction, Bonhams has announced on its website.

“Sat + He + Sat” by Iranian artist Hossein Zenderudi which grossed £98,500, was among the top selling artworks of the auction.

Other highlights included works by Iraqi artists Shakir Hassan Al Said whose “Cubist Cockerel” went for £194,500, and Jewad Selim whose “Lamea” sold for £176,500.

Two untitled works from the “Abstract Flora and Fauna” series by Sohrab Sepehri sold for £80,500 and £86,500.

Farhad Moshiri’s “Alef” gained £86,500, and Reza Derakshani’s “A Taste of Time” went for £16,250.

Works offered by Masud Arabshahi, Nasser Ovissi, Rokni Haerizadeh, Farideh Lashaii, Azra Aqiqi, Ali Shirazi and Monir Farmanfarmaian were among the items sold at the auction.

The unsold items will remain on Bonhams online auction for two weeks.
