TEHRAN – An Iraqi cultural center opened in Tehran during a ceremony on Thursday.

Iraqi Culture Minister Faryad Rawanduzi and a number of Iranian officials including Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei and Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Director Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman attended the ceremony.

“Iranian and Iraqi cultures and civilizations are intertwined with each other and we have many things in common other than merely our borders” Rawanduzi said during the opening ceremony of the center.

Rawanduzi added, “We share culture, religion and beliefs. That is the reason behind why we chose Tehran as one of the first cities to establish our cultural center.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rawanduzi called the Iranian culture as one of the most important parts of the global civilization and said that the center was established to build bridges between the cultures of the two nations.

Rezaei underlined the need for deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations, and expressed hope that the center would help boost ties.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati and Rawanduzi signed a memorandum of understanding to exchange experiences, experts and academic achievements.
