TEHRAN -- The Supreme Leader's advisor in international affairs has said that any prospective meeting on the Yemeni crisis must be held in a non-interested country, noting that Yemen’s affairs do not concern other countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks in Beirut on a trip to attend the closing ceremony of an international conference on Palestine.

Answering a question about the Riyadh meeting on Yemen, he said such meetings should be held with the precondition that the Saudi attacks on Yemen stop.

Velayati said that any discussion on Yemen’s future should be mediated by international entities and should only be attended by Yemenis.

“This can be done with the mediation of an international organization such as the United Nations and only between Yemeni sides,” asserted Velayati.

The senior Iranian politician arrived in Beirut on Monday morning. He held talks with a number of top Lebanese officials including Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

He said his meetings with the Lebanese officials addressed a range of regional and international developments.

Asked if Iran has any solution for the Lebanese problems particularly for electing a new Lebanese president, Velayati said Lebanese people are the only ones responsible for solving their problems.

He further pointed out that regional countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen are suffering from attacks by the Takfiri extremists and foreigners who are determined to sow discord among Islamic countries.

The leaders of Islamic countries which hold a record on sharing efforts must exchange views on the current crises, he said, hoping that his trip would provide grounds for such exchange of ideas.
