TEHRAN- The head of the Police Department of Fars Province confirmed on Thursday that 1.25 tons of illegal drugs have been seized and three drug-smuggling gangs busted over the last three days along the Kerman-Shiraz and Kerman- Neyriz roads, IRNA reported.
General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi told reporters that out of the total illicit drugs, 50 kilos were heroin swallowed entirely by 7 Afghan nationals.12 people were also arrested and 13 cars seized in connection with the rest of the drugs which were mainly opium and hashish, he added.
Goodarzi sent a strong message to drug traffickers warning them not to consider Fars Province a safe haven because police will take them down and bring their organizations to a halt.
“One of the highest priorities for police this year, (Iranian calendar began on March 21, 2015) is combating street drug dealers; therefore, undercover police will be in the parks and public areas in Fars Province starting today [Thursday] to identify the criminals and bring them to justice,” Goodarzi said.
He also said that 1,000 hookahs were confiscated at some tea houses in Fars where extra amphetamine, a hazardous drug, were added to the tobacco.
