TEHRAN - The project of demolishing 25 illegally-constructed buildings in an area of four hectares by Kan riverside, in northwestern Tehran, began Saturday and will continue for three days, IRNA reported.

Head of Department of Tehran Water Resources Affairs Vahid Moradinasab said that the illegal constructions are mostly restaurants and in cooperation with police department six buildings have already been ruined, IRNA reported.

Eight buildings are set to be destructed each day, Moradinasab said.

Department of Water Resources Management is responsible to deal with any illegal constructions beside the rivers, he added.

Heavy rain and flood in Kan and Sulqan in July 2015 led to some deaths and property damages especially in some districts in the northwestern Tehran, he said.

Experts blame illegal constructions as the root cause of the flood in Kan River because they narrowed the path of the river and increased the damages, Moradinasab said.
