TEHRAN — In a parliament meeting held on Monday the MPs passed some articles of a bill based on which the Energy Ministry is tasked to implement a dual water supply system to relieve water shortage, Hamshahrionline reported.

Cities with dual water supply system provide the residential homes with both drinking water and separately household water for toilet flushing, laundry, garden tap, etc.

MPs have recently passed the general outlines of the bill and one of the articles of the bill. However the Guardian Council may not second the motion as the sources to finance the project is yet to be decided.

Additionally, Energy Ministry officials have formerly proposed a draft bill suggesting the separation of drinking water from household water which is not discussed yet.

The dual water supply system is already in use in some densely populated cities in Iran such as Mashhad.
