Japan, Iran vow to cooperate on nuclear safety

TEHRAN – Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida announced on Monday that Japan and Iran will cooperate in the area of “nuclear safety” after the nuclear deal between Iran and great powers goes into effect.
Iran and the 5+1 group - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in Vienna on July 14.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran, Kishida said Tokyo and Tehran will use the opportunities created after the nuclear agreement to expand ties.
The chief Japanese diplomat added that the two countries will also cooperation in the spheres of environment and health.
A 23-member delegation, including a number of Japanese company directors, is accompanying Kishida in his two-day visit to Iran.
The Iranian foreign minister also said that there is a “bright future” for Iran-Japan ties in various areas.
Zarif said that it is possible for the two countries to cooperate in fight against terrorism.
