TEHRAN - Iran is going to dispatch more military advisors to Syria, Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Arab Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdullahian told UK Channel 4 News on Tuesday.
“We are seeking to fight terrorism,” he stated, adding that Iran’s efforts to bring peace back to Syria follow requests by Damascus. The diplomat refuted claims that Iran deployed combat forces in Syria.
He said parallel policies of Iran and Russia over Syria are not a tactical move, but rather actions taken with regard to the strategic situation in the region and the larger world.
Amir-Abdullahian stated that Iran’s policy vis-à-vis Syria has two wings, one being military advisory and the other diplomatic moves.
