TEHRAN -- Iran ranks first in the Middle East in the number of art galleries and art universities, art expert Alireza Sami-Azar mentioned in a meeting.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the first anniversary of the publication of the Honar-e Farda quarterly on Tuesday evening at the Tehran’s Mohsen Gallery.

Most galleries and art universities in Middle East are in Iran making it responsible for the theoretical discourse on art in the region, which is among the aims of the magazine, he said.

Iran needs theoretical discourses on contemporary art with other parts of world and the Honar-e Farda magazine has filled this need during its one year of publication, Mohsen Gallery director Ehsan Rasulof mentioned during the event.

The bilingual magazine in Persian and English is distributed in different parts of the world, the editor-in-chief of the magazine Hamid Keshmirshekan mentioned at the meeting.

“We introduce Middle Eastern artists in our magazine since these artists are in a cultural region with Iran. Tehran has more galleries and art universities than 20 other regional countries,” he added,
