Iran suffered a narrow loss to the U.S in the FIVB World League on Saturday.

Iran was defeated against the World Cup reigning champion 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 27-25 and 26-24) in Rio de Janeiro.

Two consecutive successful challenges at the end of the fourth set gave the Americans the chance to win it all.

Matthew Anderson stars with 23 points in a breathtaking match, whilst Iran's Shahram Mahmoudi battled in vain with 16 points for his side.

“We played better than last match, but we still have to improve some details,” Iran coach Raul Lozano told FIVB.com.

“I liked the way that the team behaved after losing the second set. We had some opportunities to win the fourth set, but we did not,” the Argentine added.

Iran will meet Argentina early Sunday.
