TEHRAN Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has discontinued its flights to Tehran and several other cities.
"This company has stopped its flights to cities such as Tehran, Almaty, Baku, Cairo, Amman, Damascus, Nairobi, the Maldive Islands and Zurich due to financial problems, according to the Islamabad daily Navay-e Vaqt.
According to Nassim Rana, the head of PIA, the airline has lost 1.390 billion rupees in the previous six months.
Stopping flights is a measure to prevent further losses and improve PIA's financial condition, he said.
In the meantime, Nassim Rana said that PIA has programmed its flights based on new policies for London and Birmingham in Britain and countries on the southern border of the Persian Gulf.
Many planes of the PIA fleet are old and must be renovated in order to compete with other airlines.
