TEHRAN - Temel Karamollaoglu, leader of the Turkish Felicity Party, said on Tuesday that Iran and Turkey have enjoyed friendly relations for centuries and the border between the two countries has turned into a “symbol of peace and friendship”.

Temel Karamollaoglu made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Ebrahim Taherianfard.

The party leader also said Iran and Turkey play important roles in establishing peace and stability in the region.

“Iran-Turkey relations are so significant that can guarantee peace, security and stability in the region and the world. Friendship between Iran and Turkey is not something new and has 500 years of background,” Karamollaoglu explained.

He added some countries seek to undermine the relations between the two neighbors and that is why the two countries should insist on areas of common interest and avoid raising differences.

He also called for expanding political, economic and cultural ties.

For his part, Taherianfard said the relations between Iran and Turkey have gone through many ups and downs in the course of history, however, the two countries have stood beside each other in trying times.

The ambassador said it is natural to have different interpretations on one issue, yet “constructive dialogue” and “trust” can help bridge differences.

The diplomat said media, parties and non-governmental organizations can help establish “constructive relationship”, “build trust” and achieve “consensus”.
