TEHRAN – A number of the families of the martyrs who lost their lives in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War or the fight against terrorism in Syria met on Saturday with Defense Minister Amir Hatami, Mehr reported.

The Iran-Iraq War, known in Iran as “the Imposed War”, began when Iraq invaded Iran on 22 September 1980. It lasted until 20 August 1988. During the war hundreds of thousands in each side lost their lives.

In recent years, Iran has been playing an advisory role in Syria, as requested by the Damascus government, in order to fight terrorism.
