TEHRAN - Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami met on Sunday with his Syrian counterpart Ali Abdullah Ayyoub in Damascus to discuss relations and reaffirm Tehran’s support for the Syrian government and people.

“The resistance front has stood beside the Syrian people during eight years of war which resulted in defeating terrorism and establishing stability and security in the region and even in the world,” the defense minister explained.

“Liberating Syria from terrorists will bring security to the region and will prevent foreign interference,” he pointed out.

He added Iran will spare no effort in protecting Syria’s territorial integrity.

“Extra regional countries seek to deepen division and instability in Syria and Iran will spare no effort to maintain stability in this country [Syria].”

For his part, Ayyoub said that Syria was able to foil enemies’ plots through cooperating with Iran.

He also said that Iran-Syria relations will persist and no country can cause harm to it.

He also described relations as “strategic”.

‘Iran ready to participate in reconstructing Syria’

Upon arrival in Damascus, Hatami said that Iran is ready to participate “actively” in reconstructing Syria.

He noted that his two-day visit is in line with expanding cooperation in post-Daesh era.
