Iran’s Zob Ahan claim 2019 AFC Champions League playoffs place

TEHRAN – Iran’s Zob Ahan FC claimed a place in the 2019 AFC Champions League playoffs after defeating Kuwaiti club Kuwait 1-0 on Tuesday.

The Iranian outfit edged past their rivals in extra-time in their Preliminary Stage 2 tie at the Foolad Shahr Stadium in Isfahan.

Osaguona Christian found the back of the net in the 110th minute.

 Zob Ahan, the 2010 AFC Champions League runners-up, will meet Al Gharafa of Qatar next week.

“I am very very happy due to this win because we defeated a team who had not lost in the past 18 months. I would like to thank all the fans who came to stadium to support us. From now on, we concentrate on match against Al Gharafa in Doha and I think we can advance to the 2019 AFC Champions League group stage,” Zob Ahan coach Alireza Mansourian said.

Earlier on the day, Saipa of Iran defeated Indian football club Minerva Punjab 4-0 and will face Qatari club Al Rayyan in the playoffs next week.
