Rouhani receives credentials of six ambassadors

TEHRAN – On Saturday President Hassan Rouhani received credentials of the new ambassadors of Burkina Faso, Myanmar, Congo, Malta, India and Iraq.

During a meeting with Gaddam Dharmendra, the new ambassador of India to Tehran, Rouhani said that Chabahar port has turned into a symbol of cooperation between the two countries.

He also attached great importance to expansion of ties with India as a friendly country.

Rouhani also called for speeding up implementation of agreements between the two countries in energy sphere.

For his part, Ambassador Dharmendra said that India seeks expansion of relations with Tehran.

‘Iran-Iraq ties are exemplary’

During a meeting with Abdul-Rahman Saad Jawad Qandeel, the new Baghdad’s ambassador to Tehran, Rouhani said that Iran-Iraq ties are “exemplary” in the region.

He added that Iran will stand beside the Iraqi government and people.

The Iraqi diplomat said that Baghdad seeks to expand relations with neighboring Iran.

Rouhani is planned to visit Iraq in the near future.

‘Iran determined to expand relations with Congo’

In the meeting with Joseph Okio, the new ambassador of Congo to Iran, Rouhani said that Iran is determined to expand relations with Congo.

Both countries’ capacities should be used in line with expanding ties, he added.

‘Europe should compensate for U.S. withdrawal from nuclear deal’

In a meeting with Paul Mifsud, Malta’s new ambassador to Tehran, Rouhani said that Europe should compensate for the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

For his part, Ambassador Mifsud expressed his country’s support for preserving the JCPOA.

On May 8, 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump officially withdrew his country from the international nuclear deal and reinstituted sanctions against Iran.

Rouhani hopes Rohingyan Muslims would return to their country

In a meeting with the new ambassador of Myanmar to Tehran, Rouhani expressed hope that the Rohingyan Muslims would return to their country.

“Stability and security in a country can be reached through cooperation among all the ethnicities and groups,” the president remarked.

He also discussed expansion of relations with Myanmar with the ambassador.

‘Iran attaches importance to ties with African countries’

During a meeting with new ambassador of Burkina Faso, Rouhani said that his country attaches importance to ties with African countries and is making efforts to realize this goal.

Rouhani also held a separate meeting with Bahram Qassemi and Mohammad Taghi Saberi, the new ambassadors of Iran to France and Tajikistan.
