The 18th OIC Qods Committee Meeting Opens in Morocco

AGADIR, Morocco Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, heading a political delegation, arrived here on Monday morning to attend the 18th meeting of the Qods Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which opened here Monday.
Upon arrival, he told IRNA that the holy Qods belongs to all Muslims throughout the globe.
On measures taken by OIC to resolve the problem of the holy Qods over the past few years, he stressed that the Islamic countries, the OIC in particular, have never been indifferent toward the fate of the holy city.
He expressed his hope the 18th meeting of the Qods Committee will achieve positive results.
Underlining the need for unity among all Islamic nations, Kharrazi said that Muslim solidarity can help in restoring to Palestinians their legitimate rights and in liberating the holy Qods.
The 18th meeting of the Qods Committee is aimed at reviewing latest regional developments and the fate of the holy Qods.
The meeting has been called at the request of the head of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat during his whirlwind tour of 25 Muslim capitals, including Tehran, earlier this month.
Founded by Morocco's King Hassan II in 1975, the Qods Committee is one of four major committees of the OIC mandated to preserve the cultural heritage of the holy Qods, to protect the holy sites of the city and to prevent Zionist attacks against them.
Representatives from 15 Muslim states including Morocco, Iran, Senegal, Mauritania, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Guinea, Palestine and Indonesia regularly attend committee meetings which are held at its permanent headquarters in Morocco.
Later on the 18th Qods Committee opened in the city of Agadir of Morocco on Monday.
According to IRNA, the head of Iran's delegation at the meeting Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi is to address the opening ceremony.
Morocco's King Mohammed VI and Yasser Arafat, chairman of the autonomous government of Palestine addressed the opening session.
The meeting is to study the latest development and status of Bait-ul-Moqaddas (Jerusalem).
The 17th OIC Qods Committee meeting was held in 1998 upon the initiative of President Mohammad Khatami who is OIC chairman, following the act of Zionist regime to establish Bait-ul-Moqaddas city hall as well as plans to Judaize the city.
