Iran vehemently denounces ‘arbitrary’ U.S., British strikes in Yemen

TEHRAN- Iran has severely condemned the U.S. and UK military attacks on Yemen, branding it as an act of “arbitrary” action that violates the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international rules and norms.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani emphasized on Friday that the “arbitrary attacks will have no result other than fueling insecurity and instability in the region” in Iran’s initial response to the aggression.

“These military attacks are carried out in line with the continuation of the full support of the United States and the United Kingdom for the last hundred days of the Zionist regime's war crimes against the Palestinian nation and the oppressed citizens under the complete siege of the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Kanaani went on to add, “While the Zionist regime continues its attacks and war crimes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in Palestine, the United States and England are trying to divert the attention of the people of the world away from the crimes of this fake, criminal and aggressor regime against the people of Palestine by expanding their umbrella of support for the Zionist regime.”

Kanaani called on the international community to take appropriate responses and measures to stop the development of conflict, instability, and insecurity in the region, expressing his worry about the effects of such arbitrary acts on regional and global peace and security.

President Joe Biden had earlier announced that U.S. and British military forces had begun airstrikes on Yemen, calling them a “defensive action” and promising that he “will not hesitate” to issue an order for more strikes if necessary.

The strikes occur as valiant resistance from Palestinian fighters is causing Israel’s three-month-long, fierce military campaign against the beleaguered people of Gaza to falter.

Yemen’s Ansarullah officials stated explosions hit the cities of Sanaa, Hudaydah, Saada and Dhamar early Friday, with a U.S. official stating that American and British strikes against Yemen were carried out by airplanes, ships and submarines.

The economic repercussions of the invasion are also rising, as Yemeni military forces conduct operations in the Red Sea against Israeli ships and boats destined for Israeli ports in support of the Palestinian people.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian described Yemen as part of the West Asian region’s realities and security.

“Yemeni leaders, emphasizing the security of navigation, say that they will only stop the ships that are going to spread the war and send weapons to the occupied territories,” he told his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide.

The U.S.-led action, however, occurred on the first of two days of hearings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, where Israel was accused of genocide in Gaza.

According to experts, the case’s ricochet would ultimately fall at the doorsteps of the West, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom, which have continued to supply arms and ammunition to the invasion forces.

Kanaani also said on Thursday that “we hope and want the International Court of Justice to impartially investigate the complaint of South Africa and some other governments against the Zionist regime regarding the crime against the people of Gaza and not to give in to the political and non-political pressures of the United States.”

He stated that the Israeli regime and the U.S. are attempting to achieve their political and media aims as a result of their defeat in the Gaza battlefield, but the Palestinian people are more aware than to allow their desires to come true.

Kanaani further stated that one of the most significant triumphs of Operation Al-Aqsa Storm was the collapse of the U.S.-Israel media empire, which produced a globally fabricated narrative in favor of the Israeli regime, reversing the roles of the oppressed and the oppressors.

“Undoubtedly, the future belongs to Palestine and the Palestinian nation,” Kanaani stressed, adding that Washington’s efforts in implementing U.S.-Zionist political plans will lead to failure.

He further underlined that Israel’s fear of the truth coming to light is demonstrated by the fact that over 110 journalists have been killed in Gaza during the over 100 days since it erupted.

In addition, Kanaani pointed out that “the Palestinian nation is stronger and more steadfast than before and the Zionist regime is more desperate than ever” after more than three months of the Gaza conflict.

“Today, the Axis of Resistance is more coherent, resilient and united than ever, and the supporters of the fake Zionist regime, including the U.S. regime, are more disgraced than before,” he added.

“It is the U.S. that is making all political, media, legal and military efforts to prevent the real collapse of the Zionist regime. After Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, the U.S. regime spent its little credibility on the Zionist regime, and today it is considered the loser of the war.”
