TEHRAN - The head of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said on Thursday that Sepehr and Jofeir fields in the southwest of the country will become officially operational soon, Shana reported.

Mohsen Khojasteh-Mehr said the national project for the development of the two fields, situated in the West Karoun region, is underway based on a 20-year 2.8-billion-dollar contract and will be put into operation with a daily output of 50,000 barrels.

The NIOC head praised the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) as the operator of the project, describing it as a symbol of a homegrown company.

According to the official, due to the reservoir’s high pressure, it was not possible to use ordinary wellhead and downhole equipment, so the well-completion equipment was manufactured inside the country and the job was done by applying the 10,000-pound-per-square-inch (psi) pressure to it.

He pointed to the installation of a 51-kilometer-long oil transmission pipeline and the construction of an access road with a length of over 32 kilometers as other operations carried out for the two fields’ development.

According to the official, 135 wells will become operational and 110,000 barrels of oil will be produced daily when the operations of the Sepehr and Jofeir project end.
