No Alcoholic Drink to Be Served During Khatami's Visit

TEHRAN A Japanese official said that the government and Imperial Court of Japan have agreed that no alcoholic drink will be served during the forthcoming visit by Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami to that country. The official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, said the decision was made after Tehran threatened to cancel the visit if this condition was not met by Tokyo. The political analysts in Iran have welcomed the decision and said Japan has made a goodwill gesture to Iran which should be followed by other countries, particularly France. The analysts believe that many countries in the world claim to be developed and well advanced in technological fields, but they are not advanced as far as moral principles are concerned, and they have no respect for cultural and religious values of other nations either.
