Tony Blair Refuses to Decriminalize Cannabis

LONDON Prime Minister Tony Blair said Saturday he was totally opposed to decriminalizing cannabis.
He was speaking as the issue which has even dragged in Queen Elizabeth re-surfaced in Britain after several public figures admitted smoking the drug in their youth.
"There is a debate about whether you decriminalize cannabis or legalize it and I am against it," AFP quoted Blair as telling BBC-radio from Biarritz where he is attending an informal European Union summit.
Blair said a police officer in Cumbria County who, media reports said had come out in favor of decriminalizing cannabis, was sending the wrong signal to young people.
"You are talking about quite vulnerable people, quite young people open to influence from others and I worry about that and I worry it would not stop at soft drugs," said Blair.
