TEHRAN First Vice President Hassan Habibi stressed here Sunday that public knowledge about natural disasters should be raised in order to reduce their effects.
Speaking at a gathering of officials responsible for prevention of natural disaster, he pointed to the need for serious efforts to reduce or prevent the human factor in creating or intensifying natural disasters.
The vice president stated that the more people get to understand natural disasters, the less frightening and threatening they (disasters) will tend to become, adding, Crisis management in the society is crucial.'' Habibi said that training and educating people in a crisis so that their knowledge could be put to good use is an important factor in the field of crisis management.
In other words, he added, If we are able to prepare the public for crisis, then after it occurs, we can better control or manage the situation.'' Habibi also stressed on the crucial role of media, and implementing the measures to increase in safety of building and industrial installations in confronting the dangers of natural disasters.
