TEHRAN Minister of the Interior Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari Monday commissioned offices of governors general within the country to prepare the ground for generating activities which will yield production rapidly and create job opportunities.
Addressing a one-day nationwide gathering of planning, administrative and financial deputies at governors general offices, Mousavi Lari expressed satisfaction with the allocation of parts of the surplus oil revenues to the provinces.
He hoped that the allocations will be granted in accordance with priorities, comprehensive projects and expert assessments in each province.
He recommended governors general to pay more attention to the private sector in making use of the opportunity and called on them to refrain from putting the amount at the disposal of the public sector in an effort to prevent centralization in the public sector.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the interior minister said that the issue of "Employment" is the major preoccupation of the government, adding that there is no other issue prior to this.
Therefore, he further remarked, government's orientation, especially the policies pursued in the Third Five-Year Development Plan (2000-200) are focused on the elimination of the problem of unemployment.
Pointing to his recent visits to the Persian Gulf littoral states, Mousavi Lari said there are proper opportunities for cooperation and joint economic and trade ventures in those countries, especially in provinces bordering neighboring states. To this end, the private sector should maintain an active presence in this connection.
He also stressed formation of border marketplace and cooperatives and joint ventures with neighboring states.
Mousavi Lari however regretted the meager role played by the Interior Ministry and governors general offices in Iran's joint economic commissions with other countries but said steps have been taken by the Foreign Ministry to remove the present obstacles.
