TEHRAN Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ezzeddine Laraki said here Saturday that, at this sensitive juncture, the OIC Secretariat is ready to hold an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries to discuss Palestine.
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, Laraki thanked OIC Chairman President Mohammad Khatami for offering all-out support for Palestine.
He said that the Palestinian issue is very important for all Muslim states.
Kharrazi said, "Given the highly sensitive situation in the region at present and the key role of Muslim and Arab states in supporting the Palestinian cause, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as OIC chairman, stresses convening an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the Islamic countries." He said the world of Islam is now waiting strong and crystal-clear stances in support of Palestine.
Laraki arrived here on Friday to hold talks with Iranian officials and arrange the preliminaries for the OIC foreign ministers' meeting.
President Khatami had earlier written to Laraki to arrange an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries to study the crisis in the occupied territories and draw up strategies in support of the Palestinian nation.
