Growth in Number of Tourists Visiting Maragheh, E. Azarbaijan

MARAGHEH, East Azarbaijan Province Head of the local Cultural Heritage Department Firouz Birunara said here Saturday that 8,456 Iranian and foreign tourists visited historical sites in this northwestern Iranian city in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 20).
Birunara told IRNA that 8,090 people out of the total were Iranians while 366 were foreigners.
He said the number of Iranian tourists visiting the city in the period showed a growth of 640 percent while the number of foreigners visiting the city grew by 460 percent compared to the figures for the same period last year.
He added that foreign tourists were from the U.S., France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Pakistan and Japan.
