TEHRAN – Tunisian President Kais Saied has described relations between Iran and Tunisia as “brotherly,” emphasizing that they are built on mutual understanding, respect, and shared positions, during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tunis on Wednesday.

Iranian Foreign Minister, leading a high-level diplomatic delegation, met with Tunisian President Kais Saied during his official visit to the North African country.

Araghchi expressed satisfaction over the upward trend in Tehran–Tunis relations and praised Tunisia’s principled stance on regional developments, particularly its condemnation of U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran and its firm position on Palestine. He highlighted the need to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including economic and trade exchanges, tourism, and joint efforts on regional and international issues.

President Saied described relations between the two nations as brotherly, built on mutual respect, understanding, and convergence of views. He reaffirmed Tunisia’s determination to broaden ties across all areas of shared concern.

The two sides also discussed key regional issues, with emphasis on the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They strongly condemned the ongoing genocide and crimes committed by the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian territories, its repeated aggressions against neighboring states, and the recent terrorist attack on Qatar. Both parties praised Tunisia’s firm and courageous support for the Palestinian cause and underlined the need for stronger regional cooperation to counter Israel’s warmongering.

Earlier in the day, Araghchi arrived in Tunis as part of his North Africa tour, where he was officially welcomed by Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti. He is scheduled to continue meetings with senior Tunisian officials to discuss bilateral relations as well as wider regional and international developments.

Iranian Foreign Minister also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti on Wednesday during his official visit to Tunisia.

The two ministers reviewed the growing trajectory of Iran–Tunisia relations and discussed initiatives to expand cooperation across multiple sectors of mutual interest, including economic and trade ties, tourism, science and technology, health and medical collaboration, and cultural exchanges. Both sides highlighted the importance of establishing direct flights between Tehran and Tunis, noting that this would significantly boost economic and tourism links. They also agreed to convene a session of the Joint Economic Commission in Tehran in the near future.

Expressing strong concern over the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories, the ministers condemned the continuation of genocide and the Israeli regime’s aggressive actions in the region. They also denounced Tuesday’s terrorist attack by Israel against Qatar and expressed solidarity with the affected country. Both emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to halt the Gaza crisis, provide humanitarian aid to the oppressed Palestinian people, and hold Israeli perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

Minister Nafti further underscored Tunisia’s position condemning the illegal U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which violated Iran’s sovereignty. He reaffirmed the right of Iran and other Non-Proliferation Treaty member states to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The Tunisian minister also commended Iran’s responsible engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and stressed the importance of all parties adopting a constructive approach to sustain diplomatic efforts.
