Japan to Provide Trade Insurance Cover for 4 Projects in Iran

TOKYO Japan is to provide midterm commercial insurance cover for four economic projects, including establishment of petrochemical complexes in Iran, according to Thursday issue of daily Yomiuri Shimbun.
Shimbun put the total cost of the projects at about $700 million.
Japanese officials say the issue would be finalized during the next week visit of President Mohammad Khatami to Tokyo.
Shimbun said for the first ever over the past eight years, the project for construction of optic fibers at Iran's state railway would be covered by mid-term commercial insurance cover this spring.
Meanwhile, the value of Japan's imports from Iran in the first half of 2000 reached $2.455 billion, up 103.4 percent compared to the corresponding period the year before.
An official at Japan External Trade Organization, JETRO, told IRNA on Wednesday that crude oil accounted for $2.354 billion of the figure.
The value of Iran-Japan trade last year stood at $3.760 million, showing an increase compared to the preceding year.
