First International Exhibition on Water Potentials to Open Next Week

TEHRAN The first international exhibition on water potentials is to open here on November 6 with 210 domestic and 40 foreign companies participating.
Shamseddin Hosseini, head of the Energy Ministry's Headquarters for Water and Electricity Exhibitions and Festivals, told reporters here on Monday that companies from Italy, Germany, Canada, Britain, Australia, Holland, Denmark, France, the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be putting on display their latest achievements in water technology during the five-day exhibition.
Round-table discussions are scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the exhibition in the areas of water and civilization, water and the environment, water and agriculture, water and industry and water and energy, he added.
On the total capacity of national dams, Hosseini put the figure at 26.4 billion cubic meters as of last year. The figure is expected to increase to 33 billion cubic meters by the end of the Third Five-Year Development Plan, he added.
The volume of water harnessed from underground resources is expected to rise from 47.7 billion cubic meter in 1377 (1998) to 50 billion cubic meters in 1383 (2004), Hosseini said.
