TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization announced Saturday it apprehended a foreign national who had covertly entered Iran “on behalf of Israeli spy service” to gather information and assess the activities of the Israeli regime’s “terrorist agents.”

In its official statement, IRGC intelligence body also said it discovered “conclusive evidence” of the arrested individual’s espionage activities.

It did not disclose further details regarding the matter, including the nationality of the apprehended individual.

Since the beginning of 2026, Iran has been grappling with a surge of unrest, including protests, riots, sabotage, and attacks by individuals and groups engaging in terrorism.

These incidents, originally stemming from economic hardship and market instability, escalated violently on Thursday and Friday, with saboteurs targeting public and private property and desecrating religious sites.

Dozens of security forces have been martyred in the wake of these acts.

Iranian officials have reiterated they believe the public has a right to protest and that their voice must be heard; however, they blame the U.S. and Israel for orchestrating the violent riots and terrorist attacks.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, has said “the involvement of the United States and Israel is clearly visible” in the riots in Iran, as they are seeking to “prepare the ground for foreign intervention in the country.”
