LONDON British Bank Abbey National confirmed Friday it had made a takeover approach to Bank of Scotland, but added that the move would not necessarily result in a bid, AFP reported.
"Following speculation, the Board of Abbey National confirms that it has made an approach to the Board of Bank of Scotland which may or may not lead to an offer for Bank of Scotland by Abbey National," the bank said in a statement.
"The proposal is at a very early stage and there can be no guarantee that the acquisition will proceed," it added.
