TEHRAN- The first 40-kW hybrid solar power plant in Qom province was inaugurated in the presence of the governor to enhance passive defense and energy self-sufficiency in executive bodies.

According to IRNA, the first 40-kW hybrid solar power plant of the Qom Provincial Grain Company was opened on Tuesday night with Akbar Behnamju, the governor of Qom, in attendance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Behnamju highlighted the beginning of a surge in the construction of solar power plants in government offices to achieve self-consumption, stating that these plants enable facilities to secure their electricity supply without reliance on the national grid.

Noting that the number of offices equipped with solar energy in Qom has increased from two units in 2023 to 23 units this year, he added that the official capacity of these plants has reached one megawatt. He further noted that the latest project at the Grain Company, with a storage capacity of up to 500 kVA, can supply the office’s electricity needs for several days.

Emphasizing the need to double efforts in this sector during the year 2026, the governor of Qom announced the expansion of solar power plants in schools, mosques, and residential sectors through the provision of banking facilities.

Khosro Sameri, the Deputy Coordinator of Civil Affairs at Qom Governorate, also stressed the necessity of expanding solar power plants in residential areas, schools, and mosques, highlighting the pivotal role of infrastructure.

Sameri added that energy stability during power outages from the main grid is one of the key advantages of hybrid systems. To achieve this goal, cooperation from executive bodies and the support of banks in providing banking facilities for the installation of these plants are essential.

The deputy governor noted that the Qom Governorate has prioritized comprehensive support for entities taking steps toward utilizing clean energy within its development programs.
