TEHRAN The news about the mysterious death of Edorado (Mahdi) Agnelli caused great sorrow, said a fax sent to the TEHRAN TIMES by the Islamic Association of Italian Graduates.
Some years ago he had embraced Islam after comprehensive study of the Qoran and then accepted the Shia school of Islam, selecting the name Mahdi.
He was the owner of a group of Fiat carmaking factories and different press institutes and was a permanent senator in Italy's Senate.
On several occasions he visited Iran and succeeded in meeting the late Imam Khomeini and Ayatollah Khamenei, who then served as president, also visiting the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
The association rules out the possibility of Mahdi's suicide and believes that the enemies of Islam might have murdered him.
The late Agnelli had repeatedly told his friends in the association about the likelihood of being murdered at the hands of the enemies of Islam, particularly the Zionist agents, under the excuse of suicide or disease, voicing concern about this.
Now, the association calls on the family of the deceased and the Italian judicial and security authorities to conduct a more extensive and serious investigation into the mysterious death of Mahdi (Edorado).
In the meantime, memorial services will be held in Al-Reza Mosque, Khorramshahr St., Niloufar Square, Tehran, adjacent to the police station on Nov. 22, 2000 at 10-11:30 a.m.
