ISLAMABAD -- Taleban envoy to Pakistan, Mulla Abdul Salam Zaeef on Wednesday said the group was ready to accept even a fourth option on the issue of Osama bin Laden, if the U.S.
wished so.
Talking to the ambassador of Belgium in Islamabad, Moulvi Zaeef informed the former about Taleban's position on the issue of Osama bin Laden, spokesman of Taliban Embassy, Sohail Shaheen said.
Mulla Zaeef said that Osama issue was just an excuse which the United States was using against the militia.
He said that besides the three options, already offered by Taleban, the latter were ready to accept even a fourth one, which he, however, did not elaborate.
Taleban have earlier offered to the U.S. that: Osama could be tried inside Afghanistan, if evidences are provided; the issue could be resolved by a council of religious scholars from Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and a third Islamic country, and, that OIC should monitor the Arab militant's activities inside Afghanistan.
The United States is not accepting any of these options and it persists in its demand for Osama's extradition for trial, on the charge of his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombing of two American embassies in East Africa.
In one of its recent issues, the Taleban's English-language organ, "the Islamic emirate" had said that the building of one of these U.S. embassies, reportedly, hosted CIA's regional headquarters for Africa.
"Without evidence, no trial could be launched as per Islamic rules," Mulla Zaeef told Belgian ambassador.
The Taleban envoy also said that the UN sanctions on Afghanistan, which, he alleged, had been imposed at the dictates of the U.S., were in violation of human rights as these were affecting common Afghans.
The Belgian Ambassador to Pakistan, Igor Haustrate, according to the Taleban spokesman, said that his country did not favor further sanctions on Afghanistan.
"He said that Belgium will continue to provide aid to Afghanistan," the Taleban spokesman said.
